A mainstay on the river Amstel in Amsterdam, Hotel De L’Europe has had new life breathed into it courtesy of significant refurbishment.
The elegant colonial exterior has, as one would expect, remained intact, but once you venture inside the upgrades become apparent. The grand lobby is completely revitalised, there are brand new event spaces and the hotel is home to three new restaurants.
Furthermore, the decor has a fresh skin, emanating the warm colours and antique beauty of Amsterdam throughout the halls and rooms of the hotels. Many rooms have been refitted with spacey terraces and balconies, perfectly positioned to watch the sunrays dipping into the waterways of the city each night.
Later on this year there’ll also be the addition of further suites, with even more open and luxurious spaces promised to arrive soon.
Among the aims of the refurbishment was to take the hotel from not just a historical heartthrob for the city, but into a cultural hub that helps drive the region forward as well.
On the ground floor you’ll now find MENDO, a library-decorated bookstore, with the space being particularly designed to bring local creatives and cultural forces together as one.
For fine dining lovers, there’ll be no shortage of options, with the Michelin Flore serving up flawless food and the brasserie Marie and its riverside terrace offering another enticing option. You can then transport yourself to Freddy’s for a nifty nightcap, where an in-house jazz pianist sets the tone for the moody drinking den.
As the last family-owned luxury hotel in the city, Hotel De L’Europe doesn’t planning on letting this title go anytime soon, with its spot right amongst the famous streets and canals of Amsterdam looking firm for the future.
