Flights of fancy: the growing demand for private jet travel

Private jet travel is the hottest new luxury trend, so much so that a number of high-end operators have created exclusive air holidays. Four Seasons if offering its own private jet holidays; APT too has journeys planned for Europe; and Crooked Compass will take guests on intrepid journeys across Australia.

Christian Clerc, president, hotels and resorts at Four Seasons, said: “Our private jet offering consistently attracts global interest from travellers looking to make their next adventure truly extraordinary.

“We have grown our journey schedule to accommodate seven trips in 2023, the most we’ve ever offered in one year, to best serve our guests as they navigate the changing travel environment.”

The Four Season’s AUD $180,000, 13-day African Wonders private jet journey in August 2023 is the most luxurious way to see Africa. You’ll take a hot-air balloon over the Serengeti, stay in a private villa in Mauritius, spot mountain gorillas in Rwanda, and see the Egyptian pyramids, the Acropolis in Athens and so much more.

Four Seasons’ South American Uncharted Discovery private jet trip will set travellers back AUD $282,000 and includes a magical walk through Machu Picchu, a cocktail party beneath the Costa Rican stars, a day trip to Iguazu Falls and a cruise to Antarctica, all while steeped in luxury. Go to www.fourseasons.com/privatejet for details.

Four Seasons isn’t the only group cashing in on travellers’ appetite for the good life, with luxury travel operator APT launching four private jet air tours as a new way to see Europe.

APT Europe product manager Sarah Latimore said: “We introduced our private jet air tours in Europe following the popularity of the new travel style when it was introduced in Australia in 2020. Our private jet air tours allow guests to maximise their time spent on the ground and minimise their travelling time. These tours allow people to experience itineraries that are simply not possible when travelling independently.”

The APT Ultimate Europe by Private Jet tour starts from a cool AUD $34,695 and takes you to 23 destinations over 35 days. You’ll have
a special lunch at Chateau Jemniště, a meal and tour of a family-owned Dubrovnik farm, take a dip in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, gaze over the mountains of Serra de Sintra and more.

APT’s Southern Europe journey starts from AUD $14,095 and travels from Budapest to Lisbon via private jet with sensational stops on the way. You’ll visit the ancient site of Akrotiri in Santorini, feast on a Tuscan lunch in Florence, admire the architecture of Barcelona and plenty more on your way to the Portuguese capital. See aptouring.com.au for more.

American-based Lakani is offering a Europe and Ancient Cities tour by private jet, which starts from $155,000. The tour will take you and an intimate group of travellers through the best of European cities, with luxury along every step of the way. Lovers of culture and history will celebrate Oktoberfest in Bavaria, cruise across Lake Chiemsee to the Benedictine Abbey, ride a horse-drawn carriage through Budapest’s Castle District and plenty more. Australian company Crooked Compass launched a new business to meet this demand, with some people flying to iconic destinations such as Lord Howe Island for lunch. Crooked Compass by Air tours include a five-night helicopter journey through Western Australia’s Kimberley region, priced from $44,879 per person. And its Circumnavigate Australia by Air in 32 days takes in luxury retreats from the Blue Mountains to Broome, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, and is priced from AUD $147,000 per person.
