Pandemic pause allows Princess to upgrade ships to MedallionClass

Princess Cruises’ global fleet will be upgraded to include its much-anticpated MedallionClass experience when the line returns to service in 2021.

Princess announced today that Coral Princess, Diamond Princess, Emerald Princess, Grand Princess, Island Princess, Majestic Princess, Sapphire Princess and the new Enchanted Princess will now be MedallionClass ships which feature touchless technologies.

This means that passengers on board these ships will be wearing OceanMedallion devices which replaces the traditional cruise card.

The Princess Australian fleet for 2021/22 includes Royal, Coral, Emerald and Sapphire.

The Medallion device will have embedded innovative technology to personalise the passenger’s experience on board, and make for a safer, more hygenic cruise since it allows for many transactions to be touchless.

The Medallion include the following features:

  • Touchless embarkation and disembarkation.
  • Keyless stateroom entry
  • Completely contactless commerce
  • On-demand food and beverage delivered anywhere on board the ship
  • Guest service requests can be done via mobile device chat
  • Location-based gaming and wagering
  • Entertainment content via smart devices

The line says that MedallionClass ships will offer the best Wi-Fi at sea, so that guests can stay connected all the time.

“MedallionNet offers unprecedented connectivity that’s fast, unlimited and affordable, so guests can stream favourite movies, shows, games and music, connect to favourite social media sites and video chat from anywhere on the ship,” Princess said in a statement.

With the new device, passengers can access their staterooms seamlessly with cabin doors automatically unlocking as they approach – no more fumbling for a phone or key card.

Passengers can also order food and beverages to be delivered directly to them wherever they are on the ship.

“Not only does it prevent queuing, it elevates our service delivery,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.

Passengers will also be able to local their travel companions and family members and enjoy interactive games and entertainment at their fingertips.
