Top Fashion and Beauty Tips for Melbourne Cup Cruisers

Carnival Spirit sails on 30 October from Sydney with Melbourne Cup cruisers onboard. To ensure that guests arrive in style for the year’s biggest racing event, the cruise liner has roped in celebrity stylist Penny Hunt and beauty expert Sigourney Cantelo. The beauty and style experts who have worked with Delta Goodrem, Dannii Minogue, Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Hawkins will be hosting fashion and beauty workshops aboard Carnival Spirit to get the guests race ready.

Cruise Passenger asked Penny Hunt and Sigourney Cantelo about the fashion dos and dont’s for Melbourne Cup Cruisers.

Must have fashion accessory
Remember not to overdo accessorise. Keep to simple stud earrings or statement necklaces.
Choose a simple pair of sunglasses without embellishments and avoid earrings if you are going to be wearing a headpiece.
It’s a day to celebrate the hat, so let that shine.

Go classic
Honouring tradition doesn’t mean being old fashioned or boring. Embrace feminine style with a sense of structure and sophistication. “One of my all time favourite movies is My Fair Lady, which includes one of the most famed racing film scenes of all time, even Nicole Kidman paid homage to the Audrey Hepburn character a few years ago at Derby day,” said Penny Hunt.

In her shoes
Its about being practical and stylish. You are not in a night club, so a mid sized heel or wedge is good.

Flawless skin
For a long lasting look, apply sunscreen underneath your foundation. Carry a powder compact with you. Mineral foundation is a great choice and fits easily in most bags.

Lips don’t lie
Elevate your make-up with a bold, bright lipstick.
Go for a long lasting matte formula in colours like watermelon, orange, brick reds.

Self tan
Make your skin feel great with a self tan. Look for olive based formulas. “I like to apply my tanning mousse with a mitt as it buffs it into the skin and is much harder to mess up than using just fingers or a spray,” says Sigourney Cantelo.
