Silversea claims the most sustainable ship with Silver Nova

Silversea will debut its first revolutionary hybrid and most sustainable luxury cruise ship ever built, the Silver Nova in 2023.

Silver Nova will be free of local emissions while in port, positioning the luxury Silversea Cruises at the forefront of sustainable cruising.

Silver Nova will set the benchmark for future Nova class ships as examples of the line’s ongoing efforts to offer well-heeled travellers an ultra-luxury experience at sea while protecting the fragile ecosystems, environment and the destinations it visits.

With its hybrid power capabilities, the new ship will achieve a cruise industry first – local emission-free operation while in port by using fuel cells and batteries. Silver Nova will be utilising liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main source of fuel.

The new hybrid technology will mean that Silver Nova will be able to achieve 40 per cent overall reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions per double suite compared to the line’s previous category of ships, the Muse class.

“Our Nova class ships represent a significant investment in unprecedented technological solutions. They support our mission to preserve the planet without compromising on comfort or luxury,” says Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea Cruises. “Silver Nova is the manifestation of Silversea and Royal Caribbean Group’s long-term commitment to sustainability.”

Silver Nova is being built by Meyer Werft, one of the biggest and modern shipyards in the world. Meyer Werft is renown for developing environmentally friendly and energy-efficient technologies in new builds to comply with future regulations.

“Sustainability is the future of luxury travel and the name Silver Nova is representative of the incredible innovation of Silversea’s luxury,” added Barbara Muckermann, Chief Commercial Officer. “Silversea is already a leader in environmentally conscious travel and now, with Silver Nova, we will go even further to meet the expectations of both today’s and tomorrow’s luxury traveller.”

In keeping with the company’s style of cruising, Silver Nova will offer a “brand new suite experience” taking its hallmark service to the next level with butler service in every suite, an exceptionally high crew to guest ratio and “outstanding gastronomy” the company said.

Silver Nova is scheduled to debut in summer of 2023 with sales open to Silversea’s Venetian Society loyalty members on December 16 this year followed by general sales on January 6 2022.
