Scenic Group is on track to build four more ultra-luxury Eclipse ships over the next six years at its own yard in Croatia.
Scenic’s shipbuilding company MKM Yachts will undertake the new builds, with the construction of Scenic Eclipse II well underway and expected to debut early next year.
The move is a signal that the line has put the year-long delays thanks to union problems and finances at the Croatian yard behind it and is staking its ocean future on the successful design of its owner, Glen Moroney.
“This is a very exciting development for the Scenic Group to build on the experiences gained with the construction of Scenic Eclipse I and utilising the team we have built that delivered her in difficult circumstances. Plans are well advanced for future projects and we look forward to sharing these at the appropriate time,” chairman Mr Moroney told Cruise Industry News.
Scenic launched the world’s first discovery yacht when Scenic Eclipse I debuted on her maiden voyage in Reykjavik, Iceland on August 15 last year.
When Scenic Eclipse II is launched early next year, she will offer the “ultimate experience of a lifetime for only 228 guests and only 200 in the Arctic and Antarctica.”
There will be itineraries to the European and Russian Arctic, Russia’s White Sea, the Northwest Passage, Southern Greenland and Alaska to Russia voyages across the Bering Sea.
Guests will be able to experience luxury, immersive, expedition voyages with white-gloved butler service which will take them to watch polar bears, enjoy the delights of untamed wilderness and the most spectacular, unspoilt scenery in the world.
Onboard, guests will have the choice of dining at the main dining restaurant Elements, fine French cuisine at the contemporary Lumiere, Sushi @ Koko’s, poolside Yacht Club grill and all-day grazing at the Azure Bar & Café.
They will also enjoy unlimited complimentary beverages from sipping a glass of bubbles at the Champagne Bar to indulging in an aged single malt at the Lobby Lounge.
There will be a gym, yoga and pilates studio, indoor and outdoor pools, Scandinavian plunge pool, thermal lounges, saunas and steam rooms and a 550 sq m spa sanctuary.
Eclipse ships will have a submarine for six people which can dive to a depth of up to 300 metres which has been custom-built to explore the underwater world from mysterious ruins in Greece to the vibrant coral reefs in the Caribbean.
For a bird’s eye view, guests can take to the air in a six-seater helicopter for an aerial excursion of the Antarctica, the Norwegian fjords, Iceland, Greenland, the jungle coastline of Panama and Colombia.
