Princess has announced the name for its second Sphere Class ship, with the new vessel officially named as Star Princess. Set to start sailing out of the Mediterranean in August 2025, the ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
Coming in at 175,500 tons and carrying 4300 guests, the new ship is 20% larger than any existing ships in Princess’s fleet.
John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises said: “There’s much to be admired about Star Princess – her sleek, eye-catching design, spacious interiors, and of course, the remarkable views of the sea and sky, just like the features found on Sun Princess that have prompted cruise lovers to snap up inaugural year bookings.
“We’ve carefully designed these ships to feel familiar to our guests yet significantly advanced with lots of exceptional new and expanded experiences to embrace and explore.”
Details are still arriving on new dining and beverage concepts, but you can know to expect an expanded casino, two-story Lotus Spa, and entertainment headlined by Cirque Eloize.
The ship will also feature new spaces such as The Dome, an entertainment venue drawing its inspiration from the terraces of Santorini, the next-level Piazza sculpted with a glass sphere, a newly positioned and crafted main dining room designed to maximise sea views.
Sustainability is also at the forefront of the design and planning, with the ship set to become the second Princess vessel to run on LNG fuel technology, as well as the promised employment of a range of sustainability measures across the ship.
Star Princess debuts on August 4, 2025, sailing for nine-days around Italy and Greece out of Rome, set to go on sale from June 1, 2023, along with the rest of Princess’s 2025 European program.
