Cruise passengers may experience delays over the next week after Immigration and Boarder Protection workers resumed strike action.
Today was the first day workers at Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal went on strike after the action was delayed last week following the Brussels terror attack.
The Celebrity Solstice arrived early this morning but according to a Celebrity Cruises spokesperson, passengers were not affected.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said that the line has advised guests embarking on Voyager of the Seas on April 4 to check-in at times according to their decks.
“Guests embarking Voyager of the Seas on 4 April 2016 may experience delays during the check-in and embarkation process. In order to minimise delays, we have asked that our guests arrive at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Sydney according to designated times,” said the spokesperson.
The allocated times are:
Deck 10 – 11:30am
Deck 9 – 12:30pm
Deck 8 – 1:30pm
Deck 7 – 2:30pm
Deck 6 – 3:30pm
Deck 2 & 3 – 4:30pm
Workers will go on strike at the Overseas Passenger Terminal from 5am to 7pm on April 4 and April 7.
The Carnival Spirit will be arriving on April 7 and a spokesperson from the line advised passengers to arrive at their assigned check-in time.
“We will work hard to minimise the impact on operations at the Overseas Passenger Terminal on April 7th.
“The likely level of participation is unknown at this stage, therefore it is hard to anticipate the impact of this action on guest processing. However, we will ensure adequate extra staffing to minimise impact to guests as much as we can.
“As always, during industrial action, the health, safety and security of our guests and crew continues to be our priority.
“The best advice is for guests to make sure they arrive at the assigned check-in time, to keep embarkation running as smoothly as possible.”
