Body found after man went overboard from Pacific Adventure

A body has been found in the waters near Sydney Heads after a passenger went overboard from the Pacific Adventure.

Police received reports from the ship at around 4am on Monday morning that a person had gone missing some 10 nautical miles off Sydney.

The ship was sailing on its final day of the three-night Elvis tribute voyage.

“Just after 4am today (Monday 6 May 2024) emergency services received reports a person had gone overboard off a ship 10 nautical miles off Sydney Heads,” a police spokesperson said.

“About 10.30am, officers attached to Police Marine Area Command located the body of a man and it was retrieved.”

P&O Cruises said the family of the passenger was being cared for onboard while the ship circled in the sea.

A second cruise ship which was in the area has also joined the search.  Both ships tried to lower life boats but rough conditions prevented their deployment.

At least three police vessels and a number of tug boats were deployed in the search, alongside the Toll rescue helicopter.

The cruise line said there were more than 2,600 guests still on board the ship.

Pacific Adventure’s four night Queensland cruise was delayed.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the guest at this difficult time,” the cruise line said.
