Harmony of the Seas, currently under construction in STX shipyard, France began its sea trials on Thursday, March 11 for three days. The test run focused on analysing the billion dollar ship’s technical capabilities like the power plant and propulsion system. Hundreds gathered to watch Harmony of the Seas testing French waters for the first time, and the event was widely reported and televised.
Under construction since September 2013, Royal Caribbean International has spent nearly US$1.1 billion on Harmony of the Seas, that will begin its inaugural season in Europe, starting June, followed by sailings in the Caribbean in November, 2016. Bookings are available on Royal Caribbean website, and also leading travel agent websites. The groundbreaking Oasis class ship of the Royal Caribbean weighing 227,000 tons will carry 6,000 passengers and 2,394 crew members. Highlight of the ship includes 3 multi storey water slide, a boulevard resembling New York’s Central Park, bionic bar with robotic bartenders and Voom – a new satellite internet service, for guests to use social media and stream services such You Tube.
There will be two more trials in next two months, before the scheduled delivery date – May 12, 2016.
