Dramatic video shows world’s fifth largest ship hit crane in Italy

The Costa Smeralda, the fifth largest ship in the world, hit a shoreside crane and lost a lifeboat as it approached Savona in Italy yesterday.

Witnesses say the vessel clipped a crane, losing a lifeboat which was later partially crushed.

In a video first published on Savona News, the vessel is seen coming in to position alongside when one of the lifeboats clips a shoreside crane, tearing it from its position.

The lifeboat is seen floating around the port area with serious damage.

The ship also caused damage to the terminal silo system and the shore cranes, which were pushed off their rails.
