Diamond Princess completes dry dock with new upgrades

As part of Princess Cruises’ US$450 million fleet-wide refurbishment program, Diamond Princess has undergone an extensive 14 day dry dock in Singapore.

The ship now includes new enhancements − such as upgrades for its outdoor Movies Under The Stars giant screen, an updated 7.1 surround sound digital audio and pool deck LED lighting enhancements.

The Lotus Spa & Fitness Center has also been refurbished, with upgraded salon and treatment rooms and the latest Precor fitness equipment.

Other enhancements include new carpet, light fixtures and flat-screen TVs for its casino, new furnishings at the Horizon Court buffet area, and an enhanced digital audio system for the Princess Theatre, Explorers Lounge and Club Fusion. Public restrooms and suites now include Japanese bidets as well.

Diamond Princess also features the largest open-air Japanese bath at sea, with indoor and outdoor bathing experiences. The 8,800 sq. ft onsen and garden complex boasts steam rooms, saunas and hot tubs with ocean vista views. Passengers can also enjoy other distinctive Japanese offerings like authentic sushi bar Kai Sushi and traditional music and entertainment.

Diamond has now departed for awww.princess.com/diamond-princess/ homeporting season in Japan after her Singapore dry dock. She visits Phu My, Nha Trang, Hong Kong, Taipei, Osaka and Shimizu (Mount Fuji) for a 12-night sailing before returning to Yokohama.

This will be the seventh season of Princess Cruises offering home port voyages from Yokohama and Kobe. The 2019 Japan season features 60 departures and visits 41 destinations in seven countries. It allows guests to experience Japan’s spring flowers, summer festivals and fall foliage.

Cruise tour options have also been recently introduced due to popular demand, allowing guests to combine their cruise with more time on land.  Land tours at cities such as Kyoto and Tokyo are now included in the 13-20 night cruise tour packages.

“The Japan cruises onboard Diamond Princess have been a big hit amongst our guests in the region as they love to experience the culture, famous sites and local cuisine of Japan,” said Farriek Tawfik, Director Southeast Asia, Princess Cruises. “They also provide closer-to-home departures which add to the convenience and ease of cruising in Japan, and bring guests to far-flung destinations in the country which are not easily accessed by land.”
