Cunard dedicates cruise to Elizabeth Taylor – and you can even purchase some of her valuables

Elizabeth Taylor, the striking, raven-haired actress, known for her glitz and glamour also led an extravagant lifestyle.

In 2011, the sale of some of her jewels sold for US$116 million at a Christie’s auction. And last year, her Beverly Hills mansion was listed on the market for a staggering US$15.9 million.

Now, Cunard is giving her fans an opportunity to also own some of her prized possessions.

Cunard, in partnership with House of Taylor and the celebrity auction house, Julien’s Auction will be hosting a dedicated cruise to the late star on the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York.

Guests can peruse items that once was housed in Ms Taylor’s stately Beverly Hills mansion including clothes, jewellery and even some of the late actress’ wigs. And guests are also invited to put in early bids before the auction is held.

The ‘Property from the Lifestyle of Elizabeth Taylor’ exhibition will include items like a beaded leather Versace bike jacket she wore on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, a gilt-bronze lamp from 1901, an emerald green silk Givenchy pantsuit as well as art and décor .

“It is an honour to offer our guests an exclusive preview of Elizabeth Taylor’s stunning collection on board Queen Mary 2 and give our passengers an experience available only on Cunard,” said Josh Leibowitz, SVP Cunard North America, in a statement. “Elizabeth Taylor was a fan of Cunard and frequently sailed on our ships.”

There will also be Elizabeth Taylor-themed programs on the trip including a Q&A session with members of the auction house as well as an exclusive opportunity to bid on choice items, ahead of the general auction.

“Julien’s Auctions is honored to present this three-day celebration of the life and spirit of an extraordinary woman who needs no introduction—Elizabeth Taylor,” said Darren Julien, president and chief executive officer of Julien’s Auctions, in a statement. “We are excited to present this exhibition of glamour, beauty, and style to passengers on Cunard’s iconic Queen Mary 2.

Ms Taylor’s items will be auctioned off at The Standard Oil Building in Beverly Hills as well as on juliansauctions.com from Friday December 6 through to Sunday December 8.
