In the wake of the horrific attack in Barcelona where a van mowed down pedestrians on Las Ramblas, major cruise lines have said they will continue with city visits.
Barcelona is a major port for Mediterranean cruises, and popular with Australian passengers.
A spokesperson from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings told USA Today that the Oceania’s Sirena would make a call as scheduled on Sunday, while the 4,100-passenger Norwegian Epic would also be visiting.
“We are closely monitoring the situation in Barcelona, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected,” Norwegian spokeswoman Vanessa Picariello told USA TODAY. “We will communicate any further updates, if needed, as appropriate.”
Other lines like MSC Cruises also plan to go ahead with their port call with the fleet’s largest and newest ship, MSC Meraviglia, visiting Barclona on Friday. Disney Cruise Line will be still sending the Disney Magic on Saturday.
But a spokesperson from Royal Caribbean told USA Today that the company’s executives “haven’t made any decisions at this time” about upcoming Barcelona calls. Freedom of the Seas is due in Barcelona on Sunday.Â
Other lines that are scheduled to visit the Spanish city include Costa Cruises as well as Aida Cruises. Â
Las Ramblas is not far from Barcelona’s main cruise terminal.
