Celebrity Cruises leads International Women’s Day with a female led bridge brigade

Celebrity Cruises, one of the world’s most progressive cruise lines has revealed a stellar line up of bridge officers – and a third of those are women.

To celebrate international women’s day, the line has also changed its iconic X logo to XX on all its social media channels to represent the female chromosome and supports this year’s #BreakTheBias International Women’s Day theme.

The “XX” logo was projected onto Celebrity Cruises’ highly anticipated flagship, Celebrity Beyond, which is currently under construction at Chantiers de I’Atlantique shipyard in St Nazaire, France – due to debut next month.

Celebrity has a history of progressive thinking and in 2015 President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo announced Captain Kate McCue as the first American female ship captain, a role she still holds today.

It is not the first time that Celebrity has made strong steps forward in gender equality. On International Women’s Day 2020, the first all-female bridge and officer team, led by Captain McCue embarked on a sailing aboard the Celebrity Edge.

The 26 women from 16 different companies reunited virtually on International Women’s Day 2021 to reflect on the historic sailing and discuss the difficult year that followed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Captain McCue then led Celebrity Cruises when the Celebrity Edge became the first ship to sail from a US port in over a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

When Captain McCue leads Celebrity Beyond she will be joined by a nine-person crew, four of whom are female; including Chief Officer Rachel Arnold (UK); Second Officer Dionysia Giapappa (Greece); Third Officer Gifty Adu Gyamfi (Ghana); and Third Officer Antonina Kolodziejczyk (Poland).
