Celebrity Cruises and Holland America battle for all-inclusive market

Holland America (HAL) has this week unveiled a “Have it All” premium package cruise fare to include beverages, speciality dining, WiFi and shore excursions, dramatically ramping up the premium line’s push into all inclusive fares.

The Have it All package is valued at $120 per person, per day for all itineraries of 6 to 9 days or longer. HAL claims it will save 50 per cent or more if passengers buy the extras separately.

“Our past promotions that offered these perks have been extremely popular, so we created a premium package that is available all the time and on nearly all our cruises,” said Gus Antorcha, the president of HAL.

Celebrity Cruises launched what it is calling its “Always Included” fare late last year.  Celebrity has bundled WiFi, beverages and tips into its standard cruise fare with two upgrade options available.

The move shows premium lines are invading the space once occupied by luxury carriers, where an all-included fare was almost always offered.

HAL claims extensive research found that experienced cruisers wanted “one simple fare that included our top amenities.”

The “Have it All” package is dependent on the length of the cruise. For cruises of six to nine days, the package has one shore excursion of up to $100 value or $100 off any one tour; signature beverage package up to 15 drinks per day, one night of specialty dining and WiFi package.

For cruises of 10 to 20 days, the deal includes two shore excursions of up to $100 value per tour or $100 off each of any two tours; signature beverage of up 15 drinks per day, two nights of specialty dining and WiFi package.

For cruises of 21 days or longer excluding Grand Voyages, the deal includes three shore excursions of up to $100 value per tour or $100off each of any three yours, signature beverage package of up to 15 drinks per day, three nights specialty dining and WiFi package.
