Carnival Cruise Line has selected the winning name for Carnival Splendor’s new green waterslide which Australians can try when it debuts in Sydney December this year.
The winning entry of the state-wide naming competition is … Green Lightning!
The name that beat almost 3,000 entries came from Debbie Dye from Coorangong, NSW.
Ms Dye scored an exclusive invitation to the waterslide’s official naming ceremony where she’ll be one of the first in Australia to ride down the slide in December.
She will also get to enjoy a 10-night cruise to the South Pacific on Carnival Splendor with her family.
“A massive congratulations to Debbie for coming up with such a fantastic name and submitted the best creative entry. Green Lightning is not only a subtle nod to the waterslide on Carnival Spirit, but it also perfectly describes how guests will free fall at lightning speed,” said Jennifer Vandekreeke, Vice President Carnival Cruise Line Australia.
The line also says that the Green Lighting is gripping, green and as fast as lightning, bringing next level thrill, speed and topping the line’s Green Thunder on Carnival Spirit.
Green Lightning towers 50 metres above the waterline, the height of the Harbour Bridge, and features an impressive 11.3-metre free-fall drop as the capsule floor opens, followed by a slingshot curve, twisting and sliding guests into a giant green swirling bowl.
The Green Lightning is joining its sister slide, the yellow 104 metre long Twister Waterslide™ in Carnival Splendor’s green and gold WaterWorks, alongside MiniRacer slides, splash toys and tipping buckets.
Carnival Splendor is set to become the newest and largest ship homeported year-round in Australia.
She will be sailing 7, 8, 9 and 10 day cruises to the South Pacific as well as shorter cruises around Australia, like Weekend Samplers to Tasmania and Moreton Island.
