Renowned photographer Steve McCurry has got the enviable job of travelling the world aboard Silversea’s fleet of luxury expedition ships and chronicling his experiences.
McCurry is best known for his haunting portrait of a green-eyed Afghan refugee girl.
The partnership was announced at a global launch in Sydney today by Silversea Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Muckermann, who said Australia is now within 1,000 passengers of beating the UK to become Silversea’s second biggest market.
America remains the boutique Italian brand’s number one market, but a raft of additional Australian sailings in the next two years would put Britain’s place under pressure.
Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s CEO, said Asia was also a fast growing source market for the luxury brand, especially the area’s new middle class and retirees with superannuation cash payouts.
Mr Martinoli told Cruise Passenger Silversea’s amazing results from Australia would be boosted by a $170 million refurbishment program and local cruise offerings.
Silver Discoverer will be in Australia in November, Silver Shadow in December and January and Silver Whisper in February. Ships would also be at hand in June and July next year.
The new Silver Muse will be here in January and February, 2019.
The McCurry partnership links one of the world’s best boutique luxury expedition and cruise operators with one of the foremost photographers of his generation.
McCurry has travelled the world for four decades capturing vibrant cultures and the human experience. His colour-saturated images have appeared on international magazine and book covers, in major gallery and museum exhibitions, and in permanent and private collections worldwide.
