The most celebrated cruise couple in the world, whose video of a cancelled cruise reached 22 million, have told Cruise Passenger they are preparing to do a sequel video.
Retired Melbournian couple, Dave and Norma Trill, became instant online stars when they recreated their cancelled cruise around the Pacific in the comfort of their living room.
The video showed Dave and Norma celebrating in style, drinking wine, dressed in bathrobes and sunglasses with their feet up and gazing out on the ocean – or, at least a video of the open sea played on their television screen.
The video, masterminded by their daughter, Jane, was shared on Twitter and Facebook, reaching a global audience of millions.
The couple was supposed to be celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary on board Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas on a 10-day cruise to the South Pacific, when they had to cancel because the coronavirus pandemic.
Instead of moping around, Dave and Norma were not prepared to let the virus ruin their holiday plans.
So with the help of their daughter, Jane, they posted the video clip with the caption: “Cruise cancelled? No problem.”
It went viral.
Now the couple want to do a sequel.
“We are looking to update the video clip,” said Dave in an exclusive interview with Cruise Passenger.
“The video will simulate a beach in Thailand, so it will be beachy scene. I will probably wear a Hawaiian shirt, sunglasses, a straw hat, a pair of binoculars and sip a Pina Colada. Norma hasn’t decided what she will wear yet.
“We are looking at various props and may even consider donning some goggles and swimming underwater. We just want to do it. It will be fun and great to create something funny given all the gloom around.”
Dave and Norma, both 74, are veteran cruisers and staunch Royal Caribbean fans having chalked up 12 voyages with the line.
“We love cruising on Royal Caribbean ships, you don’t have to take the car. We eat really good food, the staff and entertainment are excellent. What’s not to like?” said Dave.
Three years ago when Dave and Norma celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, the whole family spent four days in Singapore where they renewed their wedding vows on Sentosa, the island holiday resort.
Their 16-year-old grandson gave “the bride” away while their son, Graham was the best man. Jane was the matron of honour and their two granddaughters were the flower girls.
The celebrations did not end there. The family then boarded Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas and went on a cruise to Thailand.
Now that their 53rd wedding anniversary cruise has been cancelled at no additional financial cost, they are planning to rebook a New Zealand cruise on Royal Caribbean to mark their 54th wedding anniversary in March next year.
