Another of the Caribbean’s former British colonies, Barbados gained independence in 1966 and is often popularly known as Little England. Located on the eastern side of Caribbean, Barbados has gorgeous sandy beaches as a the vibrant culture of the Bajan community.

Take a walk up to Gun Hill Signal, a signal station built in 1818 that gives a 360 degree view of the island. Barbados is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with turtles, getting right up to hawksbill or leatherback turtles in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. Andromeda Botanical Garden is popular for its tropical varieties of ferns and orchids and the Sunbury sugar plantation, built in 1650, houses antique carriages and colonial antiques. Don’t miss the 300 year old Mount Gay Rum distillery that still produces the finest local rum.
