Major cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival are banning cruise passengers and crew members from using Samsung Galaxy Note 7 onboard its ships after fears of “dangerous explosions” caused by overheating.
Just yesterday, a replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploded while a passenger was boarding a Southwest Airlines Flight in America. Luckily no one was injured and more than 75 people were asked to deplane including the crew members.
Carnival Cruises’ website has posted a notice saying, “Guests and crew in possession of an applicable Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone are required to turn off their device, disconnect the device from any charging equipment, disable all applications that could involuntarily activate the device (e.g. alarm clock) and protect the power switch to prevent its unintentional activation”.
Other lines who have also banned the phone include Cunard, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, P&O Cruises, Costa Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Thomson Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and more.
Crystal Cruises has also been included in the list with passengers and crew members told to stop using their phones immediately.
The German cruise line AIDA has issued safety precautions to its passengers that read, “Your safety is our priority. Therefore we would like to bring your attention of the risk when using your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on board.
“If you are in possession of such a device, we strongly recommend against using during your trip. Please turn your device off immediately.”

This is a concerning point. But I don’t believe people will abide by this rule. You may get a few who will but I’d imagine the minority will continue to use there phones. If they weren’t going to use there phones you’d just leave them at home wouldn’t you. Perhaps because of the situation maybe the cruise lines need to handle these mobile phones under the same regime as alcohol and those that insist on bringing these phones on there cruise must surrender them for safe keeping till end of cruise when they collect like the excess alcohol you have to turn over and all the other stuff the cruiselines confiscate and return at end of cruise.
