It’s going to be one of the busiest weeks for Sydney’s most famous waterways, and already a medical emergency has shown what can happen in a cruise congested habour.
Just hours before three ships arrived this morning – with the Carnival Spirit, Pacific Princess and Seabourn Odyssey all arriving within a short window – a medical emergency aboard MS Amsterdam brought one sea lane to a halt.
The Holland America ship that sailed on the evening of 11 February, 2016 for a Grand World Voyage to Hong Kong, made a stop at Manly Harbour around 7 pm to offload a sick passenger in his 50s. The medical condition of the passenger still remains unknown.
The ship’s staff contacted the NSW Marine police, the passenger was treated by the paramedics at Watson Bay and then taken to a hospital.
Two ferries, Freshwater and Collaroy, made way for the 237 meter long luxury ship. Royal Caribbean’s  Explorer of the Seas also followed and went past the Holland America ship.
MS Amsterdam was in Sydney till 8 pm, which was nearly a two-hour delay since it left the White Bay Cruise Terminal at 6 pm.
The harbour will witness a weekend of luxury in the next 48 hours, with the Azamara Quest, Ponant’s Le Soleal, the Seabourn Odyssey and Silversea’s Silver Whisper all in town.
