Cunard’s multimillion pound refurbishment of the Queen Mary 2 begins on 27 May, 2016 at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Germany, and the cruise liner has roped in Ireland based marine interior firm McCue Marine to upgrade the Queen’s Grill, Princess Grill restaurants and the Queen’s Grill Lounge.
McCue Marine is known for its bespoke fittings in timber, veneers and interior finishes like timber flooring, lacquer finish, glass and metal work aboard ships with clientele across Europe, Canada, Caribbean, Far East and Australia.
The Irish firm is celebrating its alliance with Cunard. “This is a great accolade for McCue Marine. This contract is a very big win for us, and testament to our previous work in the fit out industry,” said Stephen Mills, business development manager McCue Marine.
The Queen Mary 2’s interiors will draw inspiration from the original Queen Mary, reflecting the art deco heritage. For example, the former Todd English Restaurant will be remastered into the Verandah Restaurant with a private dining area.
“To ensure that work is completed within this very tight frame, one of the client’s prerequisites was that new bespoke fixtures and fittings contain a mixture of timber veneers, marble, glass and architectural metalwork – which can be preassembled offsite to allow for a fast installation on board,” said Mr. Mills.
McCue Crafted Fit was launched in 2014 to cater to the ship refurbishment market with a 60,000 sq ft production facility in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland.
