Last minute or earlybird, when do you book your cruise?

Travellers are taking a chance and waiting until last minute to book a cruise, according to a new poll.

The study, conducted by Cruise Critic UK found 27 percent of respondents were waiting until the last few weeks before departure to secure their cabin.

Of those that took the poll, 33 percent said they were not willing to risk waiting until the final few weeks and were booking months ahead.

Meanwhile, a third said they were set on being organised by making reservations a year or more in advance.

As the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm or in this case the deal, with many cruise lines offering great savings on cruises with the release of brochures.

Among them is Holland America, which this week announced guests who booked select 2015 and 2016 sailings would receive one of four special offers.

‘Explore 4’ benefits include a free stateroom upgrade or a Pinnacle Grill dinner for guests booking an ocean-view and higher category stateroom; reduced cruise fares for third and fourth guests in the same stateroom on select sailings; and 50 percent reduced deposit.

APT is offering earlybird couples up to $5,500 in savings with the purchase of a Majestic Rockies and Alaska Cruise departing in April next year.

The fly free* offer is valid on the 18-day itinerary and includes rail, coach and cruise journey on ms Westerdam.

Island Escape Cruises has savings of up to $1,000 per couple on its 2015 cruises on Island Passage.

Among the itineraries is the new nine-night Spirit of Vanuatu cruise departing from Luganville Harbour with stops in Aese Island, Hog Harbour, Champagne Beach, Asanvari Harbour, Pentecost Ranon, Crab Bay and Malo Island.

To commemorate Scenic Tours’ first small ship luxury cruise brochure, the line is offering solo cruisers savings on 15- to- 29-day itineraries in Northern Europe, Central America, Chilean Fjords, Mediterranean and Alaska.
